Biography
After being involved in the Liberal Party for more than thirty years, David won the Liberal Party of Canada nomination for the riding of Ottawa-Orléans in September of 2009. He has been an active member of the local riding association for the past twenty years.
David is a founding partner at Bertschi Orth Smith LLP, a legal practice which now employs close to thirty people in Ottawa-Orléans. He has practiced law since 1985, authored numerous articles and spoken at various high profile conferences throughout Canada and the United States. He acted as a Crown prosecutor and a prosecutor for the Ontario Human Rights Commission. He was appointed Chair of the International Practice and Substantive Section by the Federation of Defence and Corporate Counsel in 2008.
David volunteered for a number of organizations such as the Citizen Advocacy and the Resource Centre for the Handicapped. He also supported a number of sports and cultural groups in the community (Cumberland Panthers, Orléans Young Players Theatre Group, Music Alive and Cumberland soccer, hockey and baseball associations).
Born in Ste. Adèle, Québec, he went through primary school in French and a bilingual secondary school. He then studied at Carleton (BA 1980) and Windsor (LLB, 1983).
David resides in Ottawa-Orléans with his wife and their six children. He made Orléans his home more than twenty years ago.

En septembre 2009, David a remporté la campagne à l’investiture dans la circonscription d’Ottawa-Orléans. Depuis plus de vingt ans, il oeuvre auprès du Parti libéral du Canada et est un membre actif de l’association libéral de la circonscription.
David exerce sa profession depuis 1985 et il est un partenaire fondateur de la firme d’avocats Bertschi Orth Smith LLP, un bureau qui emploi près de trente personnes dans Ottawa-Orléans. Il a publié plusieurs articles et a fait des présentations à des conférences d’envergure au Canada et aux états-Unis. Il a exercé les rôles de procureur de la Couronne et de procureur de la Commission ontarienne des droits de la personne. En 2008, il a été nommé président de la section ‘International Practice and Law’ de la ‘Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel’.
David a oeuvré à titre de bénévole auprès d’organismes tels que Parrainage civique (Citizen Advocacy) et le ‘Advocacy Resource Centre for the Handicapped’. Il a aussi appuyé plusieurs groupes culturels (Orléans Young Players Theatre Group, Music Alive) et des associations sportives de Cumberland (soccer, hockey, baseball et les Cumberland Panthers).
Né à Ste. Adèle, Québec, il a fait ses études primaires en français et ses études secondaires dans un milieu bilingue. Il a obtenu des diplômes de l’Université Carleton (BA 1980) et de l’Université de Windsor (LLB 1983).
David demeure dans Ottawa-Orléans avec son épouse et leurs six enfants. Il est résident d’Orléans depuis plus de vingt ans.
